Choosing Between Rigid Boxes and Folding Cartons
The choice depends on your budget, shipping requirements, brand positioning, and product protection needs.
Construction
Rigid boxes use 1.5mm to 3mm greyboard wrapped with printed paper, pre-assembled. Folding cartons use 300gsm to 400gsm paperboard, die-cut to fold flat.
Cost
Rigid boxes cost 3 to 5 times more than folding cartons. Higher cost comes from thicker materials, hand assembly, and longer production time.
Shipping
Rigid boxes ship assembled, taking 5 to 8 times more volume. Folding cartons ship flat, reducing freight costs by 60 to 80 percent.
When to Choose Rigid
Luxury products, gift sets, subscription boxes, jewelry, cosmetics, and products where unboxing experience is part of brand value.
When to Choose Folding
E-commerce, retail shelf display, food packaging, and products where shipping costs are a major concern.
