What Information Do You Need for a Custom Box Quote?

A packaging quote is only as accurate as the information behind it. Sending complete details up front means one quote, not five rounds of clarification. Here is exactly what factories need.

1. Box style

Rigid box, folding carton, corrugated shipper or something custom? If you have a reference sample or a competitor’s box you like, say so ??it communicates more than a paragraph of description.

2. Dimensions

Length x width x height in millimetres, and state whether inner or outer. See How to Measure Box Dimensions if you are unsure.

3. Material

Board type and thickness if you know them ??for example coated art paper 350 GSM, or E-flute corrugated. If not, describe the product weight and the factory will recommend the right board. Read Custom Box Materials: A Complete Guide to learn the options.

4. Quantity

The single biggest cost driver. Share your real expected volume ??even a range. Pricing at 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 units can differ dramatically, and knowing the volume lets the factory suggest the most economical construction.

5. Finishing

Foil stamping? Embossing? Matte or gloss lamination? Spot UV? List every finish you want, and note which areas of the design they apply to.

6. Artwork status

Do you have print-ready artwork, a rough design, or nothing yet? If the factory needs to help with design or dieline creation, that affects both timeline and cost.

7. Destination and deadline

Where the boxes ship and when you need them. Export packing and freight planning start at quoting, not after production.
